Three years in Switzerland

by Larisa

THREE YEARS in Switzerland. Technically the anniversary was in late January, but it took me a while to gather my thoughts and wrap my head around this. To be honest, I don’t have an exact date on which I celebrate because moving was a process – should I mark the first day I came here? The day I moved into the apartment? Or when I got my resident permit? Or maybe it’s the day of the flight from Helsinki to Zurich, when I closed the door for the last time on my beloved studio in my Northern home and flew two monster suitcases to Zurich, with a layover in Frankfurt and a flight so bumpy, so terrible, so emotional from FRA to ZRH that I became a scared flyer for the next two years, but Zurich officially became my only home? Since I don’t have an exact date, I go by my feelings and it now FEELS as what I think three years feels like. If you’re curious for what Year One felt like,...

Discovering Swiss natural skincare brand ananné

by Larisa

“Discovering” is my favorite part of running this blog – getting to explore a new location, staying at a unique hotel, trying a regional dish, learning the history of a Swiss brand.  For those who grow up in Switzerland, local products and experiences are the norm, but for expats, knowing, doing, and shopping local is an insight and a small badge of integration achievement. Today I want to tell you about ananné, a premium natural skincare brand produced entirely in Switzerland, that I had the chance to discover at their recent re-launch event, and that I’m proud to work with this year.*

An adventure-filled weekend in the Alps: 7 things to do on Mount Titlis this summer

by Larisa

Last weekend on Mount Titlis was one non-stop mountain adventure. In just two days, we hiked, ziplined, rowed a boat, went up to the top to see snow and ice, went down to enjoy blooming meadows and sunny strolls, saw the sunrise and the sunset over Trübsee lake, and experienced winter.. in July (glaciers are so cool!). There is so much to do up...

Watching trains cross the Landwasser viaduct from the viewpoint

Hiking to the Landwasser Viaduct viewpoint to watch the trains travel across

by Larisa

Ever since I crossed the Landwasser Viaduct on the Glacier Express, I’ve wanted to see this beautiful structure again, and this time, for longer than a minute. I’ve come across photos of it from above and thought that maybe they were taken by drones. But it turns out there is an easy and scenic hike that takes you to a perfect viewpoint to observe...
